Dear Union Elementary School District Families,
The safety and health of our students and staff has been the top priority of Union Elementary School District since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic more than one year ago. The district’s mitigation efforts have helped us to successfully slow the spread of COVID in our community and to keep our schools open to in-person instruction.
You may have heard that today Governor Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) rescinded orders that direct K-12 schools to require masks. Those same orders from ADHS Emergency Measure 2021-02, recommend that schools continue to follow CDC, State and Local Health Guidance and authorizes school districts to continue requiring and enforcing masking.
Therefore, per our re-opening plan and mitigation strategies, Union ESD # 62 will continue to use CDC and Public Health Guidelines to keep our students, staff, and community safe. We will continue to require and enforce masking on all Union ESD#62 property and in all buildings, including transportation. This requirement will remain in place through the end of the school year.
As you are aware, our community continues to have substantial community transmission, see table below.
While the development and distribution of vaccines shows that there is light at the end of this very long tunnel, now is not the time to relax the mitigation measures that have worked so successfully in our schools. We must stop COVID-19 and prevent a resurgence in our community so we can safely return to fully in-person learning this fall.
We wish to thank you again for your cooperation throughout this difficult time and ask for your help and patience in assuring that our students, our staff and our community remain healthy.

Estimadas familias del distrito escolar primario de Union,
La seguridad y salud de nuestros estudiantes y personal ha sido la principal prioridad del Distrito Escolar Primario Union desde el inicio de la pandemia COVID-19 hace más de un año. Los esfuerzos de mitigación del distrito nos han ayudado a desacelerar con éxito la propagación de COVID en nuestra comunidad y a mantener nuestras escuelas abiertas a la instrucción en persona.
Es posible que haya escuchado que hoy el gobernador Doug Ducey y el Departamento de Servicios de Salud de Arizona (ADHS) rescindieron las órdenes que ordenan a las escuelas K-12 que requieran máscaras. Esas mismas órdenes de la Medida de Emergencia 2021-02 de ADHS recomiendan que las escuelas continúen siguiendo la Guía de Salud Local y Estatal de los CDC y autorizan a los distritos escolares a continuar exigiendo y aplicando el enmascaramiento.
Por lo tanto, de acuerdo con nuestro plan de reapertura y estrategias de mitigación, Union ESD # 62 continuará usando los CDC y las Pautas de Salud Pública para mantener seguros a nuestros estudiantes, personal y comunidad. Continuaremos exigiendo y aplicando el enmascaramiento en todas las propiedades de Union ESD # 62 y en todos los edificios, incluido el transporte. Este requisito permanecerá vigente hasta el final del año escolar.
Como usted sabe, nuestra comunidad continúa teniendo una transmisión comunitaria sustancial, consulte la tabla a continuación.
