Dear Union Elementary School District Families & Community Members,
Welcome Back to School, we missed you! We are so excited to see all our students on August 7th, 2023!
To kick off the year, we are holding our annual Meet Your Teacher Conferences on August 3rd. We are excited for our students to meet their teacher and other staff, get their student’s identification, find their route to and from school, and so much more!
While you were away, we were busy maintaining and improving our facilities. All schools were deep-cleaned and regular repairs were made. All cafeterias received fresh paint and new furniture. The libraries at Hurley Ranch and Dos Rios were also painted and refurnished. Hurley Ranch’s roof is being completely redone and Dos Rios has a new STEM Lab.
Union hasn’t been left out, we just have bigger plans on the horizon. Union will receive a new building to accommodate their move to a K-8 in the school year 2025-2026! The new building will include additional classroom space, a new media center and front office, including a new health office. The work for this transition starts over winter break 2023, with the relocation of school parking and district transportation. There will be opportunity to engage and learn more as we continue this exciting process. Look for more information from your school.
Thank you for choosing Union ESD as your educational partner. The 2023-24 school year is going to be another great year and to make it successful for your child we need your help. Since the pandemic, regular attendance has been a challenge. Children cannot learn what they need to learn if they are not at school every day. Additionally, they cannot form the connections and relationships, or learn the routines and expectations that will help them succeed if they have inconsistent attendance.
There are only 180 days of school, starting August 7th, for us to ensure our students are prepared with the skills and knowledge that is expected for their grade level. Every day builds upon the prior days learning, and missing a day, or even a lesson, creates gaps in learning that are hard to make up. It is essential that our students attend each day, so they can learn the information they need to succeed.
1) Schedule appointments during early release, breaks, after school and/or weekends.
2) Help your child set a regular routine for a good night’s sleep, so they wake up refreshed and arrive on time to school and ready for the day.
3) Talk to your child about the importance of attending school regularly and show them that it is important to you.
4) If you are needing assistance, reach out to your school and ask for support.
