Not everyone can get straight As, but don’t tell that to the Union Elementary School District’s (UESD) Child Nutrition Department.

In September, the health division of the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department gave all three UESD cafeterias a grade of A following inspections of all three kitchens. These kitchens prepare and serve breakfast and lunch to approximately 1,900 students every school day.

Cafeteria kitchens must pass a 27-point inspection to be found in compliance. Inspections take place twice a year and a passing grade is necessary in order for the cafeterias to operate. Not only were the UESD cafeterias found to be in compliance with health regulations, but county officials found no violations in any of the three district culinary preparation areas.

“The Child Nutrition staff does a phenomenal job ensuring the utmost safety during all food and cleaning procedures,” said UESD Child Nutrition Director Kala Suchan. “We are very proud of this accomplishment.”
