Boundary Changes

Boundary Changes for the 2025-2026 School Year

Dear Union ESD Families,

We are writing to share important news regarding boundary changes that will take effect in the 2025–2026 school year. At the January 17 Governing Board meeting, the Board approved adjustments that impact Hurley Ranch Elementary and Union Elementary. These updates are necessary to accommodate the growth in our community and ensure each school is equipped to serve students effectively.

Beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, students in kindergarten through eighth grade who live between Lower Buckeye Road and Baseline Road, and east of 91st Avenue, will attend Hurley Ranch Elementary. Students in the same area who live west of 91st Avenue will attend Union Elementary. However, for the 2025–2026 school year only, Union Elementary will implement a phased approach to the transition, serving students in kindergarten through seventh grade, with eighth grade added in the 2026–2027 school year. This plan allows current seventh-grade students at Hurley Ranch to finish their eighth-grade year with the classmates and teachers they know. After that year, 91st Avenue will remain the dividing line, and each school will serve K–8 independently.

For families whose neighborhood school may change, please note that you will not need to re-register. If your child’s school assignment is affected, we will facilitate the enrollment change. However, all families must continue to complete annual address verification in ParentVUE before the start of each new school year. We will share transportation routes and schedules later in the Spring. Special education and related services will continue to be provided according to each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), regardless of boundary changes.

If you wish for your child to remain at their current school instead of moving to the newly assigned boundary school, you will need to submit an open enrollment packet by April 15. The Union Elementary School District will follow its current Admission Standards for Open Enrollment, which prioritize students based on their current enrollment status and any siblings who would be enrolled concurrently.

We understand that boundary changes can raise questions, and we are committed to working closely with you to support a smooth transition. For additional information and to stay informed about key updates, please visit our website at www.UnionESD.org/Boundary_Changes or talk to your school. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to grow and strengthen our district.

Sincerely,

Union Elementary School District
