Dear Union Family,
Thank you for your continued focus on safety
during this pandemic and for your patience as we overcome the challenges of
COVID-19. Adhering to public health guidelines for staff and student safety has
been, and will continue to be, Union ESD’s priority throughout this pandemic,
and determines how we make decisions about teaching and learning.
Each week, Union ESD looks at data provided by the Maricopa County
Department of Public Health and the Arizona Department of Public Health (ADPH)
Benchmarks for reopening. The data helps us determine when it would be safe to
return to school and can be found at https://www.maricopa.gov/5594/School-Metrics. For several weeks,
there was an improvement in our local community health measures, but this past week, the number of cases
increased, as did the percent positivity. Based upon this data, we will
continue to monitor the spread and re-evaluate our plans should community
spread increase over several weeks. The UESD community remains at a moderate
risk. A Hybrid (both in-person and online learning), which we are using now, is
recommended.

This week’s data stresses the importance of wearing masks and social
distancing, both at school and in small gatherings outside your home. This is
especially important to remember as many of us gather this weekend for
Halloween celebrations. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has developed
protocols that can help you and your family celebrate Halloween safely. You can
find them here:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays/halloween.html

Progress over the next few weeks will determine if we can continue with
our plan for hybrid learning. We will continue to monitor this data to assure
the health and safety of our students and staff, and to determine if or when a
return to on-line learning may need to occur.
Thank you for your continued support of Union Elementary School
District.
Sincerely,
Ms. Kristine Morris
Superintendent

Querida
familia de Union:
Gracias

Sinceramente,
Sra. Kristine Morris
