Dear Union Elementary School District Families & Community,
Thank you for your continued patience and support as we prepare for the safe reopening of the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you for taking time to complete our survey, attend our town halls, and engage with us throughout the closure period. We are looking forward to welcoming your children back in the very near future. We have missed them.
Your feedback was clear, parents wanted in-person and on-line learning options for the upcoming school year. In response, our Board approved these two models at last evenings meeting. Both will be taught by Union Elementary School District teachers using our adopted curriculum and following a regular daily schedule and routine.
What happens now?
By July 17, families will need to pick a model for each child by completing the Commitment Form for Preferred School Option. The model you choose will be your model for the first nine weeks. You will have the opportunity to select a different model to begin quarter 2. Please use the following link to select the option that works for each of your children. You do not need to re-enroll; however, you will have to enter each child’s information and select their model by July 17, 2020.
Model 1: IN-PERSON LEARNING
When it is safe to return to campus, Union ESD#62 will offer an in-person learning option. Students will attend school for 6 hours per-day, 5 days per week. Students will spend the day with the same group of students, not to exceed 25, practice social distancing, and have their own desk, supplies, and curricular materials. Students will receive core instruction, social emotional learning skills, and limited specials. Students and staff will wear cloth face coverings, be pre-screened daily by parents, and be visually monitored upon entry and throughout the day. Students will eat with their class only and engage in structured breaks and play. Schools will be disinfected daily, and high touch areas more frequently, communal areas closed, and no visitors will be admitted to campus. MODEL 2: ON-LINE LEARNING
Families will have the option for children to attend on-line learning. Students will be expected to attend school for 6 hours per day, 5 days per week in an on-line setting. Students will engage with a Union Elementary School District staff member, who will follow a set schedule each day. Students will receive core instruction, social emotional learning skills, and limited specials. There will be structured breaks throughout and a break for lunch. Teachers may also release students to work independently for set periods of time. Meal service is still to be determined. Students should expect to participate as if they were in the classroom. Students will be provided with supplies and curricular materials. Attendance will be taken and regular assignments and grades will be given. Internet service will be required for this option; however, a computer will be provided per family, eventually 1:1 for every child when order arrives. Click here to choose your model.
When does school start?
Our Board voted last evening to begin our school year on August 3, 2020, for both learning models. However, all students will start on-line. Governor Ducey delayed the opening of physical buildings until at least August 17, 2020; however, on-line learning can begin at any time.
Given the uncertainty that we are destined to face this year with the continuing spread of COVID-19, and to ensure we are prepared for whatever the year holds, beginning August 3, 2020, we will have a phased opening. We will use this time to prepare all families, regardless of the model you choose, for the possibility of on-line learning at some point during the year.
Here is the calendar for the first two weeks of school. Exact times will be shared by your child’s school.
- August 3 & 4-Parent-Teacher-Student Meetings. Each parent and student will meet with teacher at scheduled time on one of these days, to check out computers, materials, update contacts, install communication platform, review transportation plan, and teach parents and students to use materials & technology. Teachers will be contacting you to set up your time.You will only need to attend a meeting on one of these two days.
- August 5, 6, & 7-Early release days. All students will attend on-line in the morning and teachers will engage in professional learning in afternoon to improve/enhance their strategies and skills with on-line learning.
- August 10th-14th-Regular 6-hour, on-line instruction schedule for all.
- August 17-Begin both models unless directed differently from the State.
Please be safe and help us slow the COVID19 spread by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and washing your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds. Begin preparing your child for the safe return to school by practicing these important health and safety precautions now.

Sus comentarios fueron claros, los padres querían opciones de aprendizaje en persona y en línea para el próximo año escolar. En respuesta, nuestra Junta aprobó estos dos modelos en la última reunión anoche. Los maestros van a usar los dos modelos del Distrito Escolar Primario Union utilizando nuestro plan de estudios adoptado y siguiendo un horario y rutina diaria regular.
¿Que pasa ahora?
Entre el 13 y el 17 de julio, las familias deberán elegir un modelo para cada niño completando el enlace del documento adjunto. El modelo que elija será su modelo durante las primeras nueve semanas. Modelo 1: APRENDIZAJE EN PERSONA

MODELO 2: APRENDIZAJE EN LÍNEA

- ¿Cuándo empieza el colegio?
