Welcome to the Exceptional Student Services Department
Union Elementary School District’s mission is to inspire hope and empower all students to courageously pursue their goals and dreams. We believe that our district has the responsibility to provide each student with special education services in the least restrictive environment. Ultimately, our aim is to address as many academic concerns as possible in the general education classroom.
Some students are identified for special education eligibility through a process that begins with a General Education Intervention Team (GEIT) at each school.
If extensive interventions in the general education classroom are not effective, a multidisciplinary team comprised of teachers, parents, and other appropriate professionals may convene to review data and to determine a student-centered direction to take. Union Elementary School District employs a highly qualified staff of special education professionals. Related services include academics, behavioral, speech, occupational and physical therapy. We are committed to providing the very best special education services with the ultimate goal of creating happy, self-confident life-long learners.
